Day Tour to Alexandria City

Alexandria Port, around 08:00 — Your guide and driver meet you at the cruise exit door. No long transfer is needed: the sites are all close to the terminal.

08:30, the Roman quarter — Begin at the excavated Roman area and Pompey's Pillar, raised in AD 298 in honour of the emperor Diocletian, carved by Egyptian craftsmen from a single block of red granite quarried at Aswan.

09:30, Kom El Shoqafa — Descend into the catacombs. These galleries were carved out of a hillside tomb beneath the temple of Serapis, and combined Greek funerary decoration with Egyptian burial customs: painted reliefs, a carved table of offerings and a distinctly Egyptian burial hall.

11:00, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina — The modern library whose disc-shaped roof rises beside the corniche, built to commemorate the ancient library that once held hundreds of thousands of scrolls.

12:30, lunch — Lunch at a local restaurant with a view of the bay.

14:00, Qaitbay Citadel — The fortress Sultan Qaitbay built in the 15th century on the foundations of the ancient Lighthouse, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Your guide explains the site that the lighthouse once occupied.

14:30, return — Back at the cruise terminal, leaving a full afternoon free.
