Your Ain Sokhna experience, made effortless

Ain Sokhna is the closest Egyptian port to Cairo, and that single fact makes it the most relaxed place in the country to run a shore excursion to the pyramids. The drive is roughly an hour and a half, so unlike the trips from Alexandria or Port Said you arrive before the tour has properly started and you get a genuinely full day at the sites rather than a hurried one.

You reach the Giza Plateau for the middle of the day, see the Great Sphinx and the three pyramids with your own guide, then continue to the Egyptian Museum before finishing with free time in Khan El Khalili. Because the return is short, there is no pressure to leave the plateau early.

Note that a free shuttle bus carries passengers about 800 metres from the ship to the main port gate, and your Egypt Rest Tours representative is waiting there.

Your route

How your day unfolds

Port Sokhna, around 08:00 — A free shuttle bus carries you about 800 metres from the ship to the main port gate, where your Egypt Rest Tours representative is waiting with a name board. From there the drive to Cairo takes approximately ninety minutes.

09:30, the Giza Plateau — Arrive early, and take advantage of it. Your guide takes you to the Great Sphinx and on to the base of the pyramids, with a more relaxed pace than a midday group visit allows. Time for photographs, and camel rides outside the site fence if you wish.

12:30, lunch — Lunch at a local restaurant in Giza.

14:00, the Egyptian Museum — Transfer to Midan Tahrir for the Tutankhamun rooms, the royal mummies and the New Kingdom galleries.

16:30, Khan El Khalili — Free time in the bazaar, with your guide available to help.

17:30, return — The ninety-minute drive back brings you to Port Sokhna with a comfortable margin before sailing.
