The Weather Bonus

December and January are the mildest months of the Egyptian year: Cairo around 20°C by day, cool jackets at night, Luxor and Aswan warm and sunny, and the Red Sea comfortably swimmable. Long temple days are a pleasure, not an endurance test. Desert nights are cold, pack a real warm layer.

The Festive Atmosphere

Egypt's hotels and cruise ships put on Christmas trees, galabeya parties and New Year galas. Cairo's streets glitter with lights; churches in Coptic Cairo celebrate around the Coptic calendar too, and fireworks and Nile dinner cruises see in the New Year. It is busy, joyful and international.
