October to April: the Classic Season

This is the high season for sightseeing. Cairo is mild, Luxor and Aswan are warm and sunny (Aswan reliably 25-30°C in winter), and the Red Sea stays swimmable. Christmas, New Year and Easter are the busiest weeks, with Nile cruises and Luxor hotels at peak prices, book early.

May to September: the Hot Bargain Season

Summer is serious in Upper Egypt: Luxor and Aswan regularly exceed 40°C, and sightseeing shifts to very early mornings. In exchange you get low prices and empty temples. Cairo is hot but dry; the Red Sea coast, with its winds and water, remains genuinely pleasant, and divers often prefer the warm summer sea.

Spring and Autumn: the Sweet Spots

March-April and October-November combine warm days, cool nights and thinner crowds. One caveat: late March and April can bring the khamsin, hot desert winds that dust the air for a day or two at a time.
