A balanced 10-day Egypt itinerary

This version includes Cairo, the main Nile corridor and an Abu Simbel option. The Nile cruise is the anchor: the currently published classic choices include a four-night Luxor-to-Aswan sailing and a three-night Aswan-to-Luxor sailing, but departure dates and stop sequences differ. Days 1–3: Cairo and Giza

Day 1: Arrive and settle in

Plan your first evening around your arrival time and hotel location. Keep the schedule open in case of flight delays, and avoid booking a timed visit soon after landing.

Day 2: Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum

Spend the day around the Giza Plateau and the Grand Egyptian Museum. The pyramids and Sphinx are open-air sites, while the museum offers a substantial indoor visit. Day 3: Choose a historic Cairo route

Days 4–8: Luxor, the Nile and Aswan

Travel from Cairo to Luxor and plan the East and West Bank visits around your cruise’s actual embarkation day. Some schedules include visits before boarding; others place them at the end of the sailing. Do not assume every cruise follows the same order.

On the river, a classic itinerary may include Luxor’s East and West Banks, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Philae in Aswan. Day 9: Decide whether to add Abu Simbel

Abu Simbel is a separate excursion south of Aswan. It can be arranged by road or air, depending on the available programme, and deserves its own day in the itinerary. If you need to depart Egypt on Day 10, confirm that your return to Aswan leaves enough time for the onward flight or international connection. When the timing is tight, stay overnight in Aswan and choose a later departure, or leave Abu Simbel for a future trip.

Want to include the Red Sea?

The Red Sea is a rewarding addition, but reaching a coastal resort takes travel time. To add beach or diving days without rushing, consider extending the trip by a few nights. If ten days is fixed, compare a Red Sea version with the Abu Simbel version and decide which experience matters more; trying to fit both may leave little time to enjoy either.

Alternative: 10 days with more time on the coast

For a beach-focused trip, keep two or three nights in Cairo, choose a shorter Nile cruise or fewer stops, and use the remaining nights for one Red Sea base. Confirm the domestic transfer and flight options for your dates before committing to hotel changes. This version prioritizes a slower coastal stay over adding Abu Simbel and every archaeological stop.
