Your Alexandria experience, made effortless

Alexandria is about three hours from Cairo by road, which makes a day trip to the pyramids perfectly workable. You leave early, reach the Giza Plateau for the middle of the day, take in the Sphinx and the pyramids, then have the afternoon for the Egyptian Museum and the old bazaar before driving back to Alexandria in time to board.

This is the excursion to choose if your ship calls at Alexandria only. Rather than settling for the city's own attractions on a short call, you use the port as a springboard to the monuments most people come to Egypt for, and you are still back at the terminal with time to spare.

How your day unfolds

Alexandria Port, around 07:00 — Your Egypt Rest Tours representative meets you at the cruise exit door with a name board and escorts you to your air-conditioned vehicle. The drive to Cairo takes approximately three hours.

10:30, the Giza Plateau — Arrive at the pyramids. Your guide takes you to the Great Sphinx and on to the base of the pyramids, leaving you free time for photographs. Camel and horse rides are available just outside the site fence.

13:00, lunch — Lunch at a local restaurant in Giza.

14:30, the Egyptian Museum — Transfer to Midan Tahrir. The guide concentrates on the Tutankhamun rooms and the royal mummies, and leaves you the rest of the afternoon at your own pace.

16:30, Khan El Khalili — Free time in the bazaar, with your guide available for help.

17:30, return — Begin the drive back to Alexandria, arriving at the terminal well before all-aboard.
