Port Said is the closest Egyptian port to Cairo, and this excursion uses that advantage well. In roughly three hours you travel inland to Giza, giving you a comfortable full day at the three great pyramids and the Sphinx before continuing to the Egyptian Museum in central Cairo.
This is the most popular choice from Port Said because it combines the two sites almost every first-time visitor wants to see, without the pressure of trying to fit them into a half-day. The museum visit is the counterweight to the heat and open air of the plateau: cool, quiet and dense with objects that explain what you were looking at outside.
