Your Cairo experience, made effortless

Please note: this is an evening departure, not a morning one. You are collected from your ship at about 21:00, so it is designed to be booked on your first night in Port Said, with a full second day available afterwards. It suits guests who would rather see the pyramids in the cool of the morning and end the day on the river.

The evening works like this: a night-time drive to Cairo, sleep, then the pyramids at first light when the plateau is empty and the light is best. After lunch in the city, you board a private boat for a cruise up the Nile while a tanoura dancer performs the old sailor's story.

Because of the late collection, this is not a good fit for a first call with an early sailing the following morning. Tell us your ship's schedule and we will confirm the timing before you book.

Your route

How your day unfolds

Your Egypt Rest Tours representative meets you at the cruise exit door. The drive to Cairo takes roughly three hours in the dark. This is the start of the excursion, not the end of your day ashore.

Transfer to your hotel for a few hours' rest.

Early breakfast, then out to Giza while the plateau is still quiet. You see the Great Sphinx and walk to the base of the pyramids in the first light, which is the reason to do this overnight in the first place.

Time at the plateau and the option of a camel ride outside the site fence.

Transfer towards the city centre.

Board your own boat for a leisurely sail on the Nile, with lunch served on board and a tanoura dance performance.

Drive back to Port Said and return you to the terminal, a full day before your ship's second call. If you would rather stay in Cairo and return later, that can be arranged.
