Your Cairo experience, made effortless

Important: this tour is designed for ships calling at both Port Said and Alexandria. You leave your ship in Port Said, spend a night in Cairo, and are brought back to Alexandria Port for the second call. If your ship sails from Port Said without stopping at Alexandria, this is not the right excursion and you should choose the overnight Cairo tour instead.

With two port calls available, Egypt is unusually easy to see. Day one takes you from Port Said to the Giza Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum, then up to the Citadel for the evening. Day two brings you back down the coast to Alexandria, where the Roman catacombs and Qaitbay Citadel are a completely different world from pharaonic Egypt, and your ship is waiting in the port.

Accommodation is one night in a five-star Cairo hotel. You keep the same private guide and vehicle throughout, and your luggage travels with you.

Day-by-day itinerary

Port Said port, around 07:00 — Your Egypt Rest Tours representative waits at the cruise exit door with a name board and escorts you to your air-conditioned vehicle. The drive to Cairo takes approximately three hours.

11:00, Giza Plateau — Guided visit to the Great Sphinx and the three pyramids, with free time for photographs.

13:00, lunch — Lunch at a local restaurant in Cairo.

14:30, the Egyptian Museum — The pharaonic galleries, the Tutankhamun rooms and the royal mummies.

17:00, hotel check-in — Transfer to the Mena House Hotel and time to rest.

09:00, drive to Alexandria — Travel north with your guide. The Kom El Shoqafa catacombs date from the early Roman period and were cut from the rock beside a temple of Serapis; the tombs were later adapted to Egyptian burial customs, which is what makes them unusual.

11:00, the Roman and Pompey's Pillar — See the excavated Roman quarter, the catacombs and Pompey's Pillar, a red granite column raised in honour of the emperor and carved for the city of Rome.

12:30, lunch — Lunch at a local restaurant overlooking the bay.

14:00, Qaitbay Citadel and the Library — Visit the 15th-century fortress of Qaitbay, built on the foundations of the ancient Lighthouse, then the modern Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

15:30, Alexandria Port — You are brought directly to the terminal beside your ship, with a comfortable margin before departure.
